 

How fast is the modem?
Remember, it doesn't matter how long you are online downloading large files, you only pay for data...brilliant.
Currently it also uses the public APN from VODACOM so it will be influenced by how many other people nationwide use GPRS, Edge, 3G and HSDPA. The different speeds are put out in the Speed Difference Table below.

Where can I use it?
ANYWHERE where you have a reasonably good cell-phone signal. SERIOUSLY, you don't need to put your PC in your home next to your telephone line anymore, you can now work in-front of the TV while watching DALLAS...is that still on?...hmmm...shows you what happens if you surf the net the whole time..;-)


What is the basic cost & how does it compare?
There are typically only 2 costs involved. A once-off starter
pack fee for hardware which gets you your hardware, SIM, connection and USB cable. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO GET ONLINE. (Please remember to watch our monthly specials !) The rest is a monthly connection charge on a 24 month contract which starts at R99.00 (Incl VAT). The reason why it is minimum charge, is that you can then pre-purchase data on the monthly contract which obviously adds to your existing debit order.

Where do I get a GOGGA Connect unit?
Very easy, look on our distributor list and pick one...however, we are incorporating distributors so fast at the moment, that we might know of a closer one. you can mail or phone us and we will simply guide you to the closest one.

How do
I know how much data I have used and will I be billed for more?
You can
monitor your data usage with the modems dashboard software or
download the data monitoring program under our downloads section.
We are developing a web interface whereby you can view on the
web what you used. As a company however, we have a full audited history of your usage as supplied to us by the service provider. So if you have queries, we can show you in detail what you used, and what we billed. No hanky-panky.

How does monthly billing work?
You sign a debit order that we then automatically run each month, same as your cell-phone bill, and deduct what you have used. If data usage is within the package you bought, there are no extra costs, if you used more data than purchased, we simply charge what we call 'out-of-bundle' rate per meg or portion of a meg used during the month.

Can I change to a higher data package later?
Yes, there is no
migration charge if you change the pre-purchased amount of data. You do need to
inform us in writing so that we can adapt the package. This entails that you
complete a netsurf Upgrade form and send to us via email or fax before the
24 of the month. From the 1 of the next month your
data is charged according to the new rate.. AMAZING.
Can I downgrade to a lower package?
Yes, you may downgrade your package to any one of the
packages below Netsurf 400. Contact our sales department for
more information.

How do I get it faster?
There are various methods of improving speed using a modem. Some are:
- Schedule large files to be downloaded at night. REMEMBER.. now you don't have to worry about being online for long,' cause there is no dialling cost
- Your browser uses 'cached' information. So the first time you visit a site, it might seem slow, BUT the next time, your PC will be faster because it saved the pictures and stuff downloaded last time.

How does GOGGA fit into the market for mobile internet access?
We are focussing on the R100-R400 per month subscriber. That is the larger volume user of internet. Basically the guys than want to pay little for allot of internet and either don't want to pay more than R500/month, or cannot pay that. Our product does not really cater for POWER USERS or guys downloading serious amounts of data, so do not compare us to a office need or ADSL or something similar. Ours is simple, cheap and easy...

Does it work with LINUX or Apple Mac?
All the newer HSDPA modems do have Apple Mac software supplied
with the modem and they would work on Linux as well.
Unfortunately we are not able to give support on the operating
systems.

Is there a CAP on how much I can download?
NOPE, you will unfortunately be charged for what you use, this is uploading & downloading, in other words, how much data goes though the unit. If you purchased on of our reduced data bundles, You will get a fixed bill each month, anything used over what you bought, is charged 'out-of-bundle".

Can I still keep my e-mail at my current ISP, and what do I do with my current ISP?
Well...you cancel it. Seriously, you do not need to phone anyone for internet access. However, many existing ISP's bundled your mail account with your dialling capabilities. So you might loose you e-mail account when you cancel to get a GOGGA unit...BUT...you simply get a new e-mail with us...no problem.

Can you do e-mail and web hosting?
Off course, have a look at our costs. you cannot believe how cheap it is to host a complete web with unlimited e-mail accounts with our partner company. AND everything is online so you can access whatever you like from e-mail to web administration anywhere in the world, because your functionality is also online through a web browser. This includes managing your website. WE AIM TO PLEASE...;-)

I cannot send mail through my GOGGA.. something about SMTP or routing?
Very easy to solve. In your e-mail settings, change your SMTP server from your original ISP to
smtp.vodamail.co.za and kapooof, your sorted.

Does it matter how long
I stay connected to the internet?
No! You
are billed based on the amount of data which is sent / received
by your PC or Laptop, and NOT the ‘length of time’ that you stay
connected to the Internet / email. In other words, for some
periods – you may not incur ANY charges when connected, but
similarly – you may incur high charges when sending / receiving
BIG amounts of data within a few seconds / minutes!

What risks are involved
when I connect to the internet/email?
When
your PC / Laptop is connected to the Internet, your PC / Laptop
can send or receive large amounts of information ‘by itself’
within a very short period of time – without you even knowing
about it! This is normally caused by viruses, automated software
downloads, etc.

Am I liable for
'unintended' data usage (for example viruses,etc)?
Yes. It
is your responsibility to protect your PC / Laptop against
unintended data usage when connected to the Internet. We advise
that you consult with an IT technician to explain the various
protective measures available to you.

Usage
Counter Disclaimer
The software
accompanying the Modem provides a "usage counter", aimed at
giving an indication of the data (in MB) that you've sent and
received.
Please note that
the usage counter gives as accurate a reflection of data usage
as possible, but accuracy cannot be guaranteed. It should be
seen as being a guide line of total data usage during a given
period only.
There are a
number of situations and factors that could influence the
accuracy of the data usage counter. These include, but are not
limited to:

The user
manually resets the usage counters in the software

The user
reinstalls the software at any point after initial usage

The user
inserts the card into another laptop and installs the software
-
The user uses
the Modem/SIM card and software on multiple laptops or device
-
The user
connects via any means other than the "Connect" button on the
modem software

The user
closes their laptop/desktop (closing screen) without pressing
"Disconnect" on the modem software
-
The user exits
the modem software by clicking on the "X" button
-
The user
disconnects in any way other than using the "Disconnect"
button

The user
removes the SIM card from the Modem and uses the SIM card in
another device for mobile data access
Please note that
GOGGA Connect will not accept any responsibility or liability
for inaccurate indications of data usage on the modem software
and any possible discrepancies between the usage counter and
actual data usage that the customer may be billed for.
